Medical Record Portability
In fall of 2018, a partner and I examined the issue of medical record portability in the U.S. Specifically, it was our hope to enable consumers to have enhanced access to and control over their medical records. Today, consumers have little transparency or control over their medical records, and inefficiencies in the portability of medical records between health systems lead to excess healthcare consumption and potentially worse health outcomes.
Ultimately, extensive user research indicated insufficient consumer interest in managing personal health records. We published an extensive review of our research and conclusions on Medium in late 2018.
It is worth noting too that our interest in the space stemmed in part from my partner's personal development of an innovative system for distributed end-to-end encrypted document sharing, which he has open sourced as Libri.
